Swansea City fans will be feeling mixed about the news that their forward Wilfried Bony is set to depart South Wales for Manchester City. However with a fee of £28m, the news will significantly be softened. According to Wales Online, the Swans now target Newcastle United’s Papiss Cisse as a replacement.
Papiss Cisse is 29-years-old and spent his youth with AS Generation Foot before moving to Douanes Dakar in his native Senegal. Mets in France gave him a European chance where he netted 36 league goals in 95 matches. With loan spells at Cherbourg and Chateauroux, Freiburg purchased him for €1.62m in December 2008. In Germany, Cisse found goals easy to come by, netting 37 in 65 Bundesliga matches.
Cisse made the Premier League switch for £9m in January 2012. Cisse was handed the prestigious number 9 shirt and has since gone on to impress the Geordie faithful with some fantastic goals. His Premier League record stands at 32 goals in 87 matches but he does have a habit of goal droughts and injuries that mean it could be a risk for Swansea City.
The Swans board are now to be careful with payments on players, earning a major pay off for £12m record signing Wilfried Bony who is now worth £28m. Of course Newcastle will know the fee Swansea have just received meaning Papiss Cisse could suddenly become slightly more expensive.
Swansea City fans, do you think Papiss Cisse could replace Wilfried Bony? Is he a risk? Where should the rest of that £28m go?
